Home News & Events Work experience at BAE Systems
What a fantastic opportunity for some of our Year 10+ young people (and staff) who have taken part in a 2-day work experience, offsite, at BAE Systems, Barrow.
They have experienced new environments, new (very strict) rules and really tough challenges throughout these past few days – taking them completely out of their comfort zones and they have all absolutely smashed it!
They have worked in groups not chosen by them, to create a new drone. This has seen them participate in Technical Drawing sessions, completing welding work using hi-tech VAR systems, working as a group to manage their budget and then make real life calls to order parts for their drone! They then donned full PPE to work in the workshop and create their drone frames using accurate measuring!
What an experience for them!!
Following their experiences onsite at BAE, the learners were tasked with creating a presentation about their time at BAE, thinking of the skills they have used, developed and learned. Representatives from BAE and the learners parents visited Underley Garden to watch the learners present their PowerPoints and voice overs. This was an incredible morning and the learners should be so proud of themselves.
They each received an official certificate from BAE, showing their achievements.
A fantastic effort from all involved! Well done!
