Residential & day places are much sought after: from Primary years at ‘Holly Trees’ through to Secondary, Post 16 College & Adult Care. In our specialist environment of understanding and calm, our focus is to make learning opportunities appropriate, meaningful and relevant, with an emphasis on social and communication skills.
Our highly trained, experienced staff are dedicated to unpick each pupil’s specific needs and match them with an integrated blend of educational and therapeutic aims which ensures progress and success.
The onsite therapists –which includes Speech and Language, Occupational, Educational Psychologists, Psychiatrist, mental health practitioner, health and therapy assistants and Learning Disability Nurses – regularly visit each class and home to help ensure our therapeutic approach is embedded across every aspect of Underley Garden life.
Our location, on a private estate close to the Lake District, offers personal space to explore & enjoy the beautiful environment as well as wonderful opportunities to join local community activities such as our recent success as winners of Cumbria in Bloom.

"I would highly recommend Underley Garden. It’s just brilliant. I struggle to put into words how lucky we feel to have found this school and have a place for our son there. We know he’s happy there and as parents that’s important for us to know.” Parent
"I wanted to say a massive heart-felt thank you to everyone who worked with xxxx over the two years she was at Underley. She experienced some fantastic opportunities and adventures with you all – I consider us really lucky that she spent that time with you; I really don’t think she could have been anywhere better." Parent
"James is a totally different child since he started at Underley. He’ll talk to people more now, whereas before he wouldn’t even look at you. His confidence has really grown since. His social worker can’t believe the difference in him. She can see that his confidence has really grown. He used to hide from her under the table!” Parent
“I knew as soon as I arrived at Underley that it was absolutely the right school for Dylan. The big wide open spaces outside, the classroom set up, and the welcoming atmosphere made me know that it would be perfect for him. I knew it was right as soon as I reached the top of the drive and saw the walled garden, but as I was shown round and saw the whole set up I knew instinctively it was the right school for my son.” Parent
