Celebrating Autistic Pride Across Our School

Our school community came together to celebrate Autistic Pride with a day filled with learning, creativity, inclusion and fun. The event provided an opportunity for young people to celebrate neurodiversity, recognise the strengths and individuality of autistic people, and promote acceptance and understanding throughout the school.

The day began with classes taking part in activities focused on autism and neurodiversity. Young people explored what it means to be autistic and discussed how our differences make us unique. Through creative activities such as colouring Autistic Pride symbols, making colourful bunting and creating artwork inspired by the vibrant colours of Pride, they reflected on the importance of celebrating diversity and being proud of who we are.

Practical and creative learning also played a key role in the celebrations. Young people took part in arts and crafts activities, produced colourful prints and even ran a café serving fruit kebabs inspired by the colours of the Autistic Pride flag. These activities encouraged teamwork, communication and creativity while reinforcing the themes of the day.

As the celebrations continued, the school community gathered together at the Orchard playground. Young people helped prepare for the event, organised materials and welcomed others as they arrived. Rainbow face paint proved particularly popular, with many young people proudly decorating their faces and enjoying the opportunity to express themselves through colour.

A highlight of the afternoon was the whole-school Colour Dash. Young people and staff came together in a joyful celebration, counting down before launching vibrant clouds of coloured powder into the air. The event created a wonderful sense of togetherness, with everyone joining in regardless of age or class. It was fantastic to see young people mixing with their peers, building friendships and celebrating alongside one another.

The day was filled with smiles, laughter and colourful memories. Most importantly, it provided an opportunity for our school community to celebrate individuality, promote acceptance and recognise the value that every person brings. We are incredibly proud of how our young people embraced the spirit of Autistic Pride and helped create such a positive and inclusive celebration for all.
