Home News & Events Music exploration in Creative Arts!
The curriculum focus for Creative Arts this half term was Music. Learners have been exploring the vast landscape of genres, culture and styles. Music exploration integrates listening, moving, and creating to build listening skills, rhythm awareness, and emotional expression.
To help us appreciate and experience this, we have been lucky enough to have visitors come into school for the learners to explore a range of different instruments and music styles using both instruments and the digital world. Tee, from Boom Dang came in to teach drumming sessions. Boom Dang is an internationally acclaimed street drumming and performance band based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Famous for high-energy choreography and big percussion, they blend Drum & Bass, hip-hop, Afro-beat, and Bhangra, which the learners really enjoyed trying to follow these distinct styles, different tempos, roots, and techniques.
Ben from More Music also visited us. More Music is a music and education charity based in the West End of Morecambe which aims to build confidence and spirit in individuals through music. Ben spent time with all the learners around the school, encouraging them explore a range of different instruments from around the world, discussing the historical and cultural traditions and influences.
What a great week long, musical treat!
