Cultural Diversity Day

To celebrate Cultural Diversity Day at Underley Garden, we tasked each class to spend the week building up to the day, exploring different cultures, recognised throughout the world.  Each class was assigned a culture to investigate. As the theme was ‘Culture connects us all’, we asked classes to investigate the food enjoyed, the religion/beliefs held, music, art, festivals and celebrations and which race was associated with their assigned culture.’

Classes were asked to present their findings, on a poster to create a school wide display. The learners really engaged well with this project by accessing learning and carrying out research of their assigned culture and really enjoying learning about different interests and approaches to life.

Classes researched facts and really presented their findings in a multitude of creative ways! This was a great showcase of how eager our learners are to learn about others their traditions.

• HT1 – Indian Culture: Characterized by immense diversity in languages, religions (Hinduism, Sikhism), and traditions.
• HT2 – Greek: Known for ancient history, Mediterranean traditions, and family-centric society.
• HT3 – Japanese Culture: Known for its blend of traditional arts (tea ceremony, calligraphy) and modern technology. 
• HT4 -Maasai Culture (Kenya/Tanzania): A distinct pastoralist culture known for maintaining traditional dress and customs.
• HT5 – Papua New Guinean Culture: Known for extreme linguistic and cultural diversity, with over 800 indigenous languages.
• HT6 –  Brazilian Culture: Characterized by a vibrant mix of Portuguese, African, and indigenous traditions (especially in music and dance).
• HT7 – Indonesian Culture: A diverse archipelago culture blending Austronesian roots with Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic influences.
• HT8 – Latin American Culture: A blend of indigenous traditions, Spanish/Portuguese influence, and high value on family.
• Q1 – Inuit Culture: Resilient Arctic culture with a deep connection to the environment, traditional hunting, and art.
• Q2 – Persian (Iranian) Culture: Features a distinct language (Farsi), rich poetry, literature, and art history.
• Q3 –Quechua Culture (Andean): Indigenous culture in South America (Peru/Bolivia) with strong ties to Andean cosmovision and agriculture
• Q4 – Arab Culture: Spans the Middle East and North Africa, centred on Arabic language, Islamic traditions, and hospitality.
• Q5 – American Culture (Anglosphere): Known for individualism, media influence, and a diverse “melting pot” of influences.
• O1 – French Culture: Famous for its influence on cuisine, arts, fashion, and the philosophy of liberté, égalité, fraternité.
• O2 – Spanish Culture: Known for passionate music (flamenco), festivals, and Mediterranean traditions. 
• O3 – Italian Culture: Renowned for its impact on Roman history, Renaissance art, fashion, and cuisine. 
• O4 –Chinese Culture (Sinosphere): Deeply influenced by Confucianism, spanning thousands of years with a focus on harmony and family. 
• O5 – Mexican: A blend of indigenous (Aztec/Maya) and Spanish traditions, known for vibrant art and food
