Home News & Events VE Day 80th Anniversary at Underley Garden
This year’s commemorations provided a unique opportunity to connect younger generations with this pivotal chapter in history. At Underley Garden, we ensured that the significance of VE Day and the sacrifices made during those challenging years were remembered.
Young people at Underley Garden accessed a British Values webinar, VE Assembly and came together at Lunchtime to enjoy an ‘Afternoon-tea’ style lunch menu. This was a great Whole school celebration; which saw staff and pupils enjoy a communal lunch, dance to 1940’s music and have insight into being a real-life soldier by accessing fantastic activities ran by our very own veteran, Stew.
Stew brought an array of items which he had from his own army days. These included Rations which the pupils enjoyed trying, a water purification display and demonstration, a cam-cot and mossie dome bed display and a camouflage shelter display. Other activities included a ‘spot the enemy’ game and a ‘patrol movements’ activity.
With Mental Health Awareness week coming up, Underley really embraced this years theme of ‘community’, coming together to commemorate the significance of VE Day.
