We celebrated Ramadan this week, exploring the practices of the Muslim community and continuing to promote inclusivity within our school.
Classes have watched educational videos showcasing how Ramadan is celebrated and why, designed some Mendhi patterns on hand templates and learned celebration dances, shown within the celebration
Learners have engaged brilliantly in learning about why people celebrate Ramadan and then had a discussion about around their thoughts and views about it whilst contining to investigate the Islamic Faith. During our learning about Ramadan, classes explored the meaning and importance of this special month for Muslims around the world. We discussed why Ramadan is observed, including fasting, prayer, reflection and helping others. Some learners were able to understand that Muslims fast during Ramadan to break bad habits. The young people thought about how they would feel if they were to fast.
Other learners took part in an assembly where they learned about the significance of Ramadan in the Islamic faith and how it is celebrated within families and communities. They also watched a video to help them understand the cultural traditions linked to Ramadan, including how people break their fast and celebrate Eid al-Fitr. This helped develop their awareness, respect and understanding of different beliefs and cultures. Orchard building learners have been making sun catcher lantern and watching a social story about Ramadan.
Learning about Ramadan builds mutual respect, dispels myths, and celebrates Britain’s diverse society which helps the learners develop their British Values.
