Home News & Events National Recycling Week
This year the young people took part in lots of different activities during National Recycling Week. They engaged in interactive assemblies which promoted upcycling and reusing. Staff showed a variety of items that could be reused for different purposes such as using newspaper to polish shoes. The young people engaged well and reflected on what they could recycle and reuse in future.
Other young people watched videos of stories that talked about recycling and moved pictures of different items into the can or can’t recycle bins.
The campaign theme is “Rescue Me! Recycle,” which aims to highlight how many items people throw away that can actually be recycled so alongside assemblies, the young people were very practical during National Recycling Week. After attending an eco-schools talk which prompted the young people to think about the different items they could recycle during a school day, groups of young people collected and sorted recycling from each class and took it to the recycling point in Kirkby Lonsdale.
This week saw great engagement from the young people and highlighted to them the importance of recycling and reusing items. This prompted conversation and thought about how they can help and what jobs are available to help manage this, in readiness for Green Careers week on 3rd November.
