Home News & Events Healthy Eating Week
During Healthy Eating Week, the pupils throughout school, explored different healthy choices of snacks and main meals each day. From fresh fruit to homemade hummus and vegetable sticks, pupils were encouraged to try new foods and learn about the benefits of a balanced diet.
Our school chef, Paul and his team, invited all pupils into the dining hall during break time to provide and invite the pupils to make vegetable and fruit crudities served with healthy dips. The lunch menu also reflected this healthy focus, featuring different salad bar options, such as fresh salads, chopped red, yellow and green peppers and a variety of different pasta salads.
Orchard school pupils have explored different foods relating to the story we are currently reading, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Young people have begun to recognise the differences between different food groups and the differences/similarities of vegetables and fruit. They made fruit smoothies, identifying the fruits used using a communication board.
Other classes used snack times throughout the week to discover healthier replacements for their usual snacks and they also looked at how they can make some of our favorite meals healthier. The pupils looked at making ‘healthy pizzas’, making the pizza base with wraps or a cauliflower base and chose healthier toppings to add on top.
The initiative aimed to promote positive eating habits and increase awareness around making healthier food choices, helping pupils to understand how what they eat can impact their overall well-being.
