Congratulations!!!
Fantastic work Luke!
We are very pleased to tell you that our Eco-Committee at Underley Garden School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
Feedback from the Eco-Schools Review read as follows: You have a large Eco-Committee and fantastic support from 5 adult members. This demonstrates a whole school approach to the Eco-Schools programme and a commitment to environmental education and pupil-led eco-action. Great work! We love the inclusive approach you’ve taken to setting your Eco-Committee. This sets a positive and encouraging tone for your work, which supports a collaborative and community ethos, vital in maximising impacts. Great work! Its brilliant to see that young people took ownership over their work by sharing responsibility for meeting minutes. The team loved seeing the picture provided of the Eco-Committee together! It’s brilliant to read that the Environmental Review helped your pupils appreciate everything that your school is already doing to benefit our environment and identify areas to work on in the future. Your Eco-Committee didn’t let any tricky questions on the Environmental Review defeat them, instead they sought out other experts in their school such as other students and teachers to help answer questions which demonstrates their resilience and team ethos. Thank you for your question suggestions for next year’s Environmental Review, they’re intelligent ideas that we will take into consideration when compiling next year’s review. It was great to read that the Environmental Review provided plenty of ideas for creating positive impacts for your school. It was an absolute pleasure taking the time to read through the comments on your Environmental Review and gain insight into the rich discussion that occurred whilst completing it. It was great to see how you careful considered findings from your Environmental Review and factored them into the creation of your Action Plan. A great sign of critical thinking! Your Action Plan is a really considered piece of work with a lot of SMART thinking. This is a mature approach – self-reflective practice, research-led planning and critical thinking – and shows an Eco-Committee that’s focused on achieving their goals. Brilliant work everyone! It is brilliant that you have been able to embed your experiences as an Eco-School into your plans within the curriculum. Well done for committing to adding a fantastic amount of detail throughout your Action Plan, we would love to see the results of your final evaluation. Your Curriculum Link examples are imaginative, practical and fun, making environmental education accessible and engaging, well done! Your examples of learning correspond with your Action Plan, providing an important context for young people that will help them understand the projects that they are working on. It was also wonderful to read you had supplemented your environmental learning with a field trip to Litter Pick in the local community– the day sounded brilliant! It’s clear that you have embedded environmental issues into your curriculum with great enthusiasm and these issues are being used to enrich learning in your school, whilst engaging young people in important issues. The team loved seeing the examples provided of your planned sessions. It shows a clear commitment to ensuring your pupils get engaging environmental education. Well done to all involved! You have placed a lot of emphasis on informing as many members of your school community as possible in your Eco-Schools work, using methods such as newsletters and your Eco-Board, this is a strength of your application. Getting involved with RSPB and Cumbria in Bloom is a great example of collaboration. Your ability and willingness to partnership is impressive! We can create bigger impacts through working together, so it was wonderful to read you collaborated with other Eco-Schools and companies that inspire Eco-Action on one of your Eco-Schools projects. We’ll need this approach to fight the impacts of climate change in the future! We hope all staff members involved in your Eco-Schools work take immense amounts of pride from the parental feedback uploaded. Your hard work and dedication has inspired young people and empowered them with the belief that they can positively impact our planet – this is something incredibly special. Your uploaded Eco-Board helped to bring your Eco-Schools application to life – it’s a real celebration of your eco-activity that will increase engagement from your school community. Your greatest success is a brilliant achievement. Your work to improve engagement across the school community is fantastic. Thanks for applying for an Eco-Schools Award, the submission was innovative, impactful, and inspirational – good luck! It’s clearly something that pupils will be proud of and leaves a great legacy to build upon. Resourcing and funding are common challenges, familiar to all educators. It creates a pressure and takes resilience to keep going. With this context, your achievements are even greater and we feel lucky that you’ve committed to our programme and delivered the achievements that you have. This is a big achievement. Your Eco-Code is a great reflection of the ethos your Eco-Committee have created, well done to all involved! Your Eco-Code is very punchy, clear and easy to digest for those that see it and we love that you were able to use Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up to inspire your Eco-Code pledge. The Eco-Schools Team have been blown away by your wonderful application it is incredibly inspirational, and we are proud to congratulate you on your Eco-Schools Green flag with Distinction, well done!
