21st November 2023

Underley’s Bingo Activity @ Heron Hill

A group of our students from Underley Garden were given the opportunity to pay a visit to Heron Hill Care Home in Kendal. With a warm welcome from Rob, students were invited to sit and mingle with the charming and polite residents for a couple of games of Card Bingo for the morning.

Students, residents and staff were each given a three-by-three board with different playing cards printed on, and our lovely host Rob called from a pack of playing cards. Young people and residents shared a warming atmosphere filled with smiles, laughter and a few, friendly competitive moments, all eager to win the prize of chocolate. Jack described the event as “amazing!”

All participants displayed kindness and courtesy by sharing their winnings with each other. Students at Underley Garden also helped some residents by reaching counters for them and repeating call outs. Brooke explained that “I really enjoyed the bingo and helping Liz.” Everyone felt incredibly welcome at Heron Hill Care Home and Rob put on a fantastic game, helping anyone who needed it.

This was a fantastic opportunity to develop social skills, explore career links within the Care sector and to build relationships with others.

Rob emailed after the visit to say ‘Thank you, your students, and the teachers for our session this morning. The residents all enjoyed meeting and playing card bingo, listening to music and enjoying the chocolates.’

We look forward to seeing how we can strengthen our community links with Rob and the residents at Heron Hill and explore other activities we can help with.

We can’t wait to go back!
