Summer Ball

Our Summer Ball event where students, parents, carers, teaching staff celebrated the end of the academic year , in style! This is the highlight of the school year which everyone looks forward toward to. All students planned their outfits carefully, speaking to their friends, peers, teaching staff, as well as liaising with care staff and parents to discuss their ideas, then the most exciting thing is going shopping for their special outfit.

The summer ball provides many platforms for students to develop as well as build many skills, as well as providing links for SMSC and ultimately, just have FUN.

Our Student council representatives shared the views of their peers to ensure they were involved with in the preparation and planning.

During student council we discussed as a team everyone’s ideas, dreams and wishes from each class for the summer ball, including where it would happen, what food everyone wanted, what genre music was played as well as individual songs, we spoke about different drinks they would like and what the colour theme should be. Of course, school staff had exciting little surprises planned already, which were top secret until the opening evening of the Summer Ball.

Class teachers allocated work experience positions to help with the Summer Ball preparation so everyone was able to participate, some helped to pour and give out drinks, some helped to set up the DJ set, some decorated Holly Trees building with bunting and streamers and some young people used their creative side to design and make posters, to put up around the school, advertising the Summer Ball and what time it would start, to ensure everyone was aware of the important details.

Everyone arrived proudly presenting themselves,  dressed up in their party clothes and all wearing huge smiles; laughter and excitement filled Holly Trees, as young people darted in and around the inflatable assault course, whilst other young people showed off their dancing skills. Young people sipped their favourite mocktails whilst enjoying some sour dough pizza from the pizza van.

Young people posed for the camera front of a beautiful back drop with their friends creating magical moments they will remember forever.

A quiet area provided respite from the part antics and more relaxed atmosphere with bean bags and blankets available, colouring and drawing, as well as sensory input from various different equipment.

Everyone that took part and attended said what an amazing experience and fantastic event the Summer Ball had been.

Keeley’s mum – “Keeley has loved her time here this year, she’s made so much progress at Underley, and she’s having such positive experience at the Ball.”

Harpers dad – “We’ve been to the Summer Ball before, we really enjoy them, Harper and her sister have had a great time.”

Jensen’s mum – “My two boys are having a fantastic time.”

Daniels mum – “Its such a joy watch Daniel enjoying himself.”

What an event! Enjoyed by all, the Underley Summer Ball was a blast and a fantastic way to say goodbye to the school year and to those who were transitioning onto their next placements.
