Throughout the build up to McMillan coffee morning, we talked about what Macmillan does and how important it is because cancer can affect people’s life in so many ways, we talked about how the money can help towards cancer treatments. In classes we debated different ways we can raise money as a school.
In readiness for our coffee morning, Young people went shopping to source ingredients for baking a range of cakes and traybakes including rocky road, crispy cakes, banana bread, blue berry muffins, flap jack, brownies, blondies, cornflake cakes and shortbread filled with lots of delicious fruits.
The young people enjoyed baking their cakes following written and visual recipes, working together as a team to weigh out the ingredients, and mix them together. Engagement for the learners was fantastic!
On day of the coffee morning, each young person brought in some money ready to spend. The hall was filled with laughter and excitement as coins were posted into the donation boxes in exchange for yummy treats! Some young people ran the cake stalls and tested out their best sales techniques and pitches.
This was a lovely social event where staff and learners from all school areas came together to drink warm juice, hot chocolate, tea and coffee whilst they tucked into their delicious cakes, whilst raising money for a great cause. Underley Garden School raised £130.42 to donate.
What an amazing turn out for Macmillan!
