Children’s Mental Health Week

This year, Children’s Mental Health Week focussed on Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.

We want Children’s Mental Health Week 2025 to encourage children and young people to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them. This will help them grow and develop resilience to cope with what life throws at them.

In 01, the learners have recapped on zones of regulation, looking at how you feel and different strategies which can help us such as going for a walk, asking for a break and exploring different fidget toys. We have added sensory calming time before lunch into our daily routine following on from exploring different strategies and this being everyone’s favourite!  We have been listening to the songs from Children’s Mental Health Week Song 2025 – Know Yourself, Grow Yourself wellbeing playlist!

In Q3, we set short term goals (linking with skills for learning objectives in PSHE) and then the students completed these and talked about how it felt to challenge themselves and how they felt empowered once, they had achieved them!

Learners also accessed assemblies and tutor time activities, exploring what help us to be calm and happy, what to do if we are feeling sad or worried and how we can help ourselves and others. Learners went for a walks, with Molly dog, to get some fresh air and exercise, participated in yoga to help us calm our minds and stretch our muscles, and have also spent quality time with our friends doing activities together.

Other classes have completed lots of work on mental health, they have completed sheets on what makes them special, word searches exploring key words and colouring in for mindfulness. Learners have enjoyed practicing mindfulness through meditation, trying out the Sound bath meditation. They have learnt mental health and how having bad mental health can affect them daily.

It is so important we understand what makes us tick, our likes and dislikes, strengths, fears, hopes and dreams. Our emotions play a key role in telling us just that, and being aware of how to listen to and express ourselves is a major part of building self-awareness. The learners have enjoyed a range of activities, raising awareness of the importance of mental health and have demonstrated great willingness to discover more about themselves.
