As June is LGBTQ pride awareness month, we celebrated and raised awareness by educating young people in what LGBTQ stands for, how to be respectful, being ourselves and being proud of who we are, regardless of our sexuality and identity. In classes we explored different colours using sensory trays and dancing with multi coloured ribbons, creating rainbows and designing cards for our friends, baking cakes with colourful toppings and multi coloured cookies, crafting our very own pride flags with paint, chalk and coloured dye. Assemblies were used to embed our young people understanding of how we are all different, reminding them of the protected characteristics. We created and designed our own outfits making them unique using different materials, fabrics, textures and colours. On Friday 16th June, in time for Autistic Pride Day, we celebrated and raised awareness by holding our very own colour dash for the whole school. We explained about LGBTQ and its history, then music started playing as multi-coloured powder paint, thrown by the young people filled the air. This was a great event, which was enjoyed by all.
