Home News & Events Safer Internet Day
At Underley Garden school we have been exploring staying safe on the internet, something which affects our young people every day as they play games, research information, catch up on news and connect with others. Whether they use a phone, tablet, computer, games console or any other device to access the internet, ensuring our young people have the tools and information they need to ensure their safety online is essential. So, in honour of Safer Internet Day, we have been engaging in internet safety quizzes, looking at age restrictions for certain apps, and how we can protect ourselves and our information by only connecting with people we know and can trust online, and that not everyone is truthful about their identities online. Our Orchard school have been listening to a “keeping safe song” and using Makaton, verbal and other forms of communication to engage with this topic. The theme for Safer Internet Day this year is “Let’s Connect” so we have been exploring how we stay in contact with loved ones and friends via the internet, via phone calls, social media and video calls. As this week has also been Children’s Mental Health week, KS3 & KS4 classes have completed activities and participated in great discussions looking into the link between social media and mental health, exploring how we could navigate how they reach out to others and stay connected, but in a safer way.
