Home News & Events Train Journey from Grange Over Sands to Arnside
On Tuesday 5th July students from Post 16 and KS4 went to Grange over Sands and travelled to Arnside, using the train to practice their public transport skills. The students all bought their own tickets to incorporate money and social skills with the staff within the train station.
The students all enjoyed the train journey, with it being many students first experience of a train. They all did really well considering how busy the first train was, with limited seats available; students showed maturity and stood for the journey. Once in Arnside the students went for a short walk to the beach, following road safety protocols; students also went to the shop and practiced budgeting before heading back to the train.
This trip linked to both the transition plans of the students but also an Open Award Module for some of the students. Further cross curricular links were exploited through Maths with train timetables, budgeting and the time to make sure we caught the train; PSHE and Life Skills with understanding road safety, safety on a train platform and who could help us, along with Careers and the Gatsby Benchmarks.
When asked about the trip Joe, one of the students said “I really enjoyed the train journey today, I have never been on a train before. The timetables are a bit confusing but using the train was easy.”
