Home News & Events Safer Internet Day
Underley Garden support the children, young people and vulnerable adults to develop the skills they need to use the internet and social media safely for learning and enjoyment. We understand that we must keep children, young people and adults in our care as safe in the online world as in the real world. Internet safety is practised each day and so Safer Internet day is another opportunity for us to embed the skills, knowledge and develop our pupils understanding.
Classes have been exploring key terms when thinking of internet safety and the learners were able to say what they understood about stranger danger online. They explored the importance of not giving away personal details and also what information is ok to share. Some students said they were a little bit worried about staying safe but were reassured when they discussed what they could do to stay safe and who to go to if they needed help.
Learners enjoyed using ‘Be Internet Legends’ resources to examine the following topics:
Be Sharp – Think Before You Share
Pupils will learn about protecting their online reputation, privacy boundaries, digital footprints and how to ask an adult for help.
Be Alert – Check it’s For Real
Pupils will learn how to spot when something online is suspicious, misleading or a scam.
Be Secure – And Protect Your Stuff
Pupils will learn about privacy and security.
Be Kind – Respect Each Other
Pupils will learn about the power of online positivity by conveying kindness and empathy.
Be Brave – When in Doubt, Discuss
Pupils will learn about what types of situations need an adult to help with and what they can do if they witness a bullying incident.
They also accessed an interactive AI assembly, led by Be Legends, where they explored many topics with other schools and enjoyed the games included.
Primary learners explored internet safety by becoming detectives and using clues from fake online profiles, passwords and personal information to solve the mystery of the stolen passwords.
Learners demonstrated good skills and understanding of the importance of Staying Safe Online and participated well in the activities, assemblies and tutor time sessions which staff will continue to develop and embed.
