Home News & Events Menstrual Hygiene Awareness
Pupils at Underley Garden have been looking at Personal Hygiene during Menstruation in their Life Skills. They have been focusing on how you can keep yourself clean and hygiene throughout your period. The pupils have designed posters and displayed them in the girls toilets to show ways to keep clean and to act as a reminder during that special time.
Within their lessons they have researched menstruation and found there is a Menstrual Hygiene day on 28th May, which is celebrated across the globe to spread awareness about menstruation and their aim is that everyone can access and afford the menstrual product of their choice, that period stigma is a thing of the past, that everyone has basic information about menstruation and everyone can access period-friendly water, sanitation and hygiene facilities everywhere
To support this, we have joined in with the campaign; making our own bracelets to represent and spread awareness. The bracelet consists of 28 elements, five of the elements are red. 28 stands for the average length of the cycle, five for the average length of a period.
By wearing the bracelet, our pupils are proud to demonstrate that periods are nothing to hide, they’re happy to start conversations about menstruation and help to push back period stigma, one bracelet at a time.
Fantastic work in these lessons! Well done everyone!
