Summer SMSC News

St George’s day

The young people enjoyed activities and lessons that helped them to understand and appreciate the wide range of cultural influences that have shaped their own heritage and that of others. Every year all of our young people enjoy taking part in our annual St George’s Shield Design Competition.  We had so many fantastic entries this year and it was very difficult to choose. Congratulations to this year’s winners!

Mental health week

This is an important week for us to celebrate. Lots of us need reminders to look after ourselves so it was lovely to see so many people involved in raising awareness and sharing ideas on what we can do to help ourselves and each other. There were lots of class based activities, lessons and assemblies to raise awareness and teach everyone the importance of looking after our mental health.

LQBTQ pride day

This year everyone celebrated and raised awareness by wearing bright clothes and a whole school walk. We then hosted a carnival inspired afternoon selling homemade items, music and snacks.  To end the day all the young people and staff took part in a colour dash. Everyone left for the weekend looking very colourful and full of smiles.

Platinum Jubilee

We organised a traditional street party including a picnic, tombola, pin the crown on the Queen and lots of other games. At the end of the event everyone congregated and sang the National Anthem. It was a lovely afternoon that everyone enjoyed celebrating.

Eid

This year everyone learnt about Eid and the importance of this within the Muslim community. A beautiful display was made using rich colours and information about Ramadan to educate everyone about the celebration, what it means and how it ends with Eid al-Fitr. It was great to see so many people interested in learning about Eid. It is events like this that make us so proud of our inclusive and accepting community.

Sports day

What a fantastic day we had! The weather helped us out – not too sunny and it didn’t rain! The young people ran, jumped and rolled their way through the day supported by staff, carer’s and lots of parents which was amazing to see. Everyone was a winner but the overall winning house was Resolution – Congratulations!
